“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where bloggers can showcase books that we are eagerly waiting for.
This week I’m waiting for Heartless by Marissa Meyer.
Publication:
November 8th 2016 by Feiwel and Friends
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the yet-unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend and supply the Kingdom of Hearts with delectable pastries and confections. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next Queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the king’s marriage proposal, she meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship.
Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
Why I’m Waiting:
I’ve been a major Marissa Meyer fan since her debut back in 2012 with Cinder and I’ve been an avid reader of the subsequent releases of the other Lunar Chronicles books. When I learned that Meyer would be releasing a new book–and a standalone, I was beyond excited. I’m much more of a stand alone reader, and I although I do love series the continuation (for me) is often frustrating. I’m a little wary, actually, of Meyer’s use of the Queen of Hearts story because I’ve never been a huge fan of the Alice in Wonderland. That being said, i of course remain beyond excited for Meyer’s upcoming novel and am thoroughly convinced that she can change my opinion with a new spin on the old tale.
