Happy 2022! I’m thrilled to be reflecting back on my reads of 2021. Given that 2020 was the start of the pandemic and early quarantine days I was pretty thrilled to have read only 13 fewer books in 2021 (56 versus 69). 2021 was an extremely difficult year for me emotionally so the drop in reads isn’t all that unsurprising…although if I count the 12 unpublished manuscripts I read for my internship last spring and the two dozen or so novel length fan-fictions I read…I probably read more in 2021 than the year previous. All in all, I read some absolutely FANTASTIC books this year. I’m going to organize them by stars just to do something different.
five star reads
I read some truly fantastic reads in 2021. There’s a lot of variety on this list–although a trio of dark academia reads (The Secret History, Catherine House and A Lesson in Vengence) isn’t at all surprising. There’s also a healthy mix of 2021 releases and backlist titles.
four stars
Another set of amazing reads! I’ve realized that breaking things down into 3-stars and below seems a little negative for my taste…so instead I present you with the 31 best titles I read in 2021. I would say 31/56 titles being 4+ stars is a pretty great indication that I’ve really got a good sense of my reading style and have been sticking to it.
Here’s to another great year of reading in 2022! Follow along on Instagram, Storygraph, or Goodreads to see live updates of the titles I’m reading.
