‘Let’s Have Dinner’ is an original feature here on the blog. It was inspired by Jamie’s ‘If We Were Having Coffee’. On Jamie’s post, she catches her readers up on what is currently going on in her life, reading and non reading wise. My posts are more collaboration with other bloggers. Click here to read last month’s dinner post.
This month I’d like to welcome Sam, whom I met at the 2014 YALLFEST in Charleston, SC!
Who are YOU? What your’s name, and where do you blog?
I’m a 21 year old who is still trying to figure out the world with the help of books. My name is Sam and I blog on tumblr (or “booklr” if you will) at readingperks.
How are you? What’s going on with you right now?
Right now I’m having searching for a job and deciding if I want to go back to school (yay adult life).
Since we’re having dinner, we should probably put our order in. What are you having for dinner?
Let’s say quesadillas since I’m eating some homemade ones right now.
Do you ever eat and read? What about blog and read?
I can’t eat and read but I don’t do it often and it’s usually just snacks. I usually blog after finishing a period of reading cause I’m like “let’s go see what other people in the book world are doing”
Do you like to browse at bookstores or order and pick up your books?
I love browsing but I buy most of my books online cause it’s way cheaper.
What is one thing that you have in common with your favorite character?
My favorite character is Finnick Odair but I don’t think I have anything in common with him. So I’ll go with Katniss next. We both have family issues cause of my father’s death and I just relate to her very well.
What’s the most relatable book you’ve ever read?
Haha, contrary to my last answer, I would have to say Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell because it just captures the life of a Fangirl in college well.
Wait stop… what music is playing while we have dinner?
Can it be twenty one pilots? Cause that’s my favorite band. Unless it’s a fancy dinner then it can be Lindsey Stirling.
What’s a book you’re dying to get your hands on?
The Neverending Story. But it’s a specific edition on Book Depository that is BEAUTIFUL.
What’s one thing that surprised you about blogging?
I didn’t know I would make so many friends! Or get so many followers!
I know you’ve been dying to say it… what’s one book you can’t believe I haven’t read?
The Heroes of Olympus and The Infernal Devices!!!
As dinner continues, what’s your drink of choice?
Water. Unless they have pink lemonade.
Do you prefer blue or black ink?
Black definitely.
Is there a book that you think would translate well into a video game?
I think easily Divergent. But a more fun one would be Legend by Marie Lu I think!
Are you more of a standalone or a series reader?
Series. But I need a good standalone once in a while.
What’s one bookish trope (ex. ‘chosen one’) that you can never get sick of?
When the couple hates each other but slowly warms up and then falls in love together. Also I can’t help but fall for the secretly sweet broken bad boy.
Favorite book quote?
There must be a ton of them that I can’t even think of right now but I’ll go with in Mockingjay when Boggs says “Well don’t expect us to be too impressed. We just saw Finnick Odair in his underwear.”
Have you read Harry Potter? (Obligatory question). And if not, why not?
Yes I have! Though I wasn’t allowed to for the loooooongest time (I’ll forever be bitter about that)
What’s your favorite movie?
This one is hard. There’s so many that I love. I just watched “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” recently and it’s definitely one of my top favorites.
Is there a book to movie adaption where you preferred the movie to the book?
Yes haha that would be “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” and “Stardust”.
What book do you recommend the most?
The Hunger Games obviously but I’ll be a little more helpful and give my other top two since I can’t pick: The Lunar Chronicles and Throne of Glass.
Have you ever had a book spoiled for you?
Yeah but I don’t remember what it was so it must not have been a big deal.
Can utopian books even exist, since there needs to be some sort of conflict for a plot?
I think the setting is Utopian but Utopias are impossible so the plot is about it falling apart!
Do we share any favorite books?
Yeah, we have a couple! Shadow and Bone, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Shatter Me, Cress…
Of the classics that you’ve read, which one do think has lesson(s) that are the most applicable today?
I think most of them can be applicable today but right now I’m thinking of Brave New World because it seems like a lot of society is controlled by sex and drugs and media and aren’t noticing the corruption in the government and the world.
If you could re-read any book for the first time, what would it be?
I know that we just had dinner, but if this chat would have been during your meal of choice, when would it have been?
Uhhh pizza! All day, every day pizza is my meal of choice.
BONUS! Pick a question to be included in the next dinner.
If you had $100 to go on a book shopping spree, what would you get?
Thank you so much Sam for stopping by! I hope that you had as much fun answering questions as i and writing them. Anyways, stop by Sam’s blog and check back here next month for December’s edition of Let’s Have Dinner.
